Ethan's interest in marine biology began during the summers of his youth in Cape Cod, Massachusetts.  After graduating from Bucknell University in 1994 he concentrated on the behavioral ecology of reef fishes at the University of Guam Marine Lab, defending his thesis in 1999.  Ethan worked for nine years in Palau as a dive guide, instructor, photographer, and biologist, co-authoring and contributing images to several books including “Palau: Dive Sites, History, and Culture.”  In 2004 he was part of a zooplankton research team for the U.S. Antarctic Marine Living Resources Program.

Most recently, Ethan has been guiding diving, snorkeling, and natural history tours throughout the world.  His images and writing are regularly featured in diving publications such as Scuba Diving, Sport Diving, Scuba Diver Australasia, Asian Geographic, and others.  He is currently at work on “Underwater Cape Cod”, a book about the various marine and aquatic habitats found on New England’s famous peninsula.

Geoff's career in environmental science and policy began while studying the effects of over fishing, destructive fishing practices, and the application of traditional ecological knowledge towards the conservation of coral reefs in both Australia and Fiji .  After graduating with a B.S. in Biology from Virginia Tech, Geoff pursued his love of the marine environment by working as a SCUBA instructor, dive guide, sea kayak guide, boat captain, photographer, and field biologist in Hawai’i and the Republic of Palau.

After spending many years abroad, Geoff returned to Washington, D.C. in 2003 to pursue his graduate studies in the Department of Environmental Science and Policy at George Mason University.  After completing his doctorate, Geoff promptly moved with his wife and son to Anchorage, Alaska to establish a research program that examines the phylogeography of deep sea corals inhabiting the North Pacific Ocean.  Geoff continues exploring the effect(s) of environmental   disturbances on tropical coral communities in an effort to establish effective protocols for monitoring the health of these ecosystems and assist in the development of appropriate conservation policy.
